IndiaWatch: DoT Can Cancel 3G Permits

Thursday August 02, 2012 07:15:05 AM

This 3G roaming malarchy is stupid. Telcos try to do something good for their customers (for a change) and they get screwed by the government for it. Additionally, the ban on foreign equipment is equally ludicrous. The Indian made equipment I've tried is utter trash and even though I'm forced by law to buy certain percentage of it, I refuse to actually implement it in my network because I don't want performance to suffer and uptime is kind of important to me and my clients. Even Chinese equipment is (by comparison) better - that's how bad Indian produced stuff is. The stuff I have to buy just sits in a warehouse or gets sold off after it's depreciated. The government needs to get their heads out of their asses and maybe do what's right for the country by allowing us to build decent networks and, as a customer, allowing me to have a decent user experience - and while it's at it, maybe try implementing a set of regulations that don't encourage providers to offer only the lowest quality service because most people want to save a paise here and there. The saying "penny wise, pound foolish" really applies here.
