Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., the Energy and Resources Institute, Government of India and Flag Telecom are today's top newsmakers:

The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on telecom, headed by the home minister P Chidambram, has deferred the decision on one-time spectrum fee for incumbent operators, reports The Business Standard. The industry bodies of GSM, CDMA and tower service providers have partnered with the The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to implement green solutions for reduction of carbon emission, reports The Economic Times. Flag Telecom, a large international network operator that connects countries, is shelving its US$1 billion initial public offering (IPO). The cancellation is a setback for its parent company, Reliance Communications Ltd., which has been desperately trying to reduce its $7 billion in debt, reports The Economic Times.
