Department of Telecommunications, Nokia Corp. and TDSAT are today's top newsmakers:

Telcos are mulling to place orders to seven renewable-energy producers to buy power-efficient products to power their 1 lakh towers, reports NDTV Profit. For the last few months, telcos have been under tremendous pressure from environmentalists and government bodies to reduce the excessive use of diesel generators to run towers. Home Minister P Chidambaram has been appointed as the new head of the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) for spectrum auction, reports Zee News.Earlier Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar declined the job in order to avoid controversies.
