Bharti Slashes 4G Device Prices

Friday July 06, 2012 01:29:47 AM

It is too early for the adoption of 4G to pick up. It will take another 15-18 months for the adoption to really pick up. RIL's entry will be the game changer.  To be mass market operators would need to create services focused on health, education etc. And informally, they all realise and accept this...This is one big learning of 3G.

I am not surprised to hear that adoption of 4G has not much picked up in India. it is no brainer to learn that india still not very bandwidth hungry unlike Western countries. India has around 11% internet peneteration. Out of this, only 5%-10% would be using high bandwidth consuming applications or Videos. To get into the mass market, it is very essential to create services on top of 4G and monetise them. there is plethora of avenues to conceptualise and create such services. Regards, Anupam.

Good News! Hope there will be another wave of price cuts after 15th Aug, when Reliance comes into the fray at a much larger scale...Key will be to reduce the tariffs (especially entry level) with innovative schemes like advt. flashing which won't be that annoying as was the case with slow connections!
