Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., BT Group plc and KPN Telecom NV get busy in today's roundup of Euro telecom happenings.

Huawei's mobile infrastructure deal with Everything Everywhere Ltd. in the U.K. could be just the first of a number of European network deals that put pressure on Ericsson AB and Nokia Siemens Networks. (See .)

BT has struck an agreement to be a supplier of national core network capabilities for the U.K. government's Public Sector Network. The deal is more complex than that (we think) but delving into the details is not advised for anyone without a first-class honors degree in Acronym Management. (See .)

Irish optical equipment hopeful Intune Networks has received 520,000 (US$850,000) in funding as part of a pan-European broadband technology development programme called PIANO+. Does that mean we can refer to the cash as Intune PIANO notes? Probably not...

Ailing Dutch incumbent KPN is using an investor day in London to set out its key objectives for the next four years. Domestically it plans to increase its market share in broadband and mobile to 45 percent, despite some drastic cost-cutting, while internationally it says it will keep on investing to beef up its "challenger" businesses. U.K. ISP TalkTalk, which has not had the best of press recently, is no doubt hoping for more positive coverage of its plan to launch a server-level Web security service. The idea is that homes with more than one connected device can have them all protected from Web nasties without having to load security software onto each device. (See .)

Subex Ltd., the Bangalore-based {buzzbin 187795|Service Provider Information Technology (SPIT)} vendor, has landed a deal with what it calls one of Europe's leading mobile solutions companies. Subex will be providing its ROC Partner Settlement software on a managed-services basis. (See Subex Lands Euro SPIT Deal and .)
